Thick Thighs in the City!

IMG_7964

Although I considered myself body positive since I was a teenager,  I wasn’t always so kind to myself. I spent most of my adult life not wearing shorts, especially shorter shorts. Part of it was that I didn’t like how shorts rode up in the middle and the other part was that I felt like everyone was staring at my cellulite. It took me a long time to not only accept my cellulite, but to embrace it.  I am making up for lost time and actively looking for short shorts. And maybe, just maybe  someone out there would see my thick rippled thighs walking down the street and be inspired to do the same. So when Torrid asked me if I wanted a pair of shorts of my choice to style, I was ON it! Bring on the shorts! Let my thighs feel wind, rain and sun!

I chose the Floral Mesh Embroidered Shorts, because these just ooze summer time to me. The light material and lace detail are super fun. The shorts are lined, so you do not have to worry about the white being too sheer. A huge plus to me is that they are high waisted. High waist is just more comfortable on my body shape, as a lower rise doesn’t stay put. I am wearing a Torrid size 1 (1X or 14/16). They feel very comfortable, but if I wanted the loose fit of the model on the Torrid site I would have to size up. I will wear these out for brunch with friends and also to take my dog, Frannie, for a walk.

I debated pairing these shorts with Torrid’s David Bowie shirt. I might still do that. The casual look would be super cute and I’m a super David Bowie fan. Ultimately, I decided I wanted to pair the shorts with something I would wear to grab patio drinks with friends.  I chose Torrid’s Border Print Off Shoulder Top.  It looks like it would be a thick shirt, but is actually breezy and stretchy. I will also wear this shirt knotted up around the waist to create a casual cool crop top. I am wearing a Torrid size 1 in the top. I love how it fits. I could have also worn it a size smaller if it I wanted it to fit a bit more form fitted.

I pulled the entire outfit together with Torrid’s Faux Sued Knotted Slide Sandals. I’m a huge fan of slide sandals! These are super adorable and on-trend. I’ll be wearing them all summer long! I am wearing a size 10.5, but could have worn a size 10 as they are true wide width.

What I Wore: Torrid Floral Mesh Embroidered Shorts, Torrid Border Print Off Shoulder Top, and Torrid Faux Suede Knotted Slide Sandals.

I hope you allow yourself the freedom to wear exactly what it is you want to wear. Whatever that may be. I hope your vision of body positivity includes yourself.

All the best to you,

xo jamie

I love this outfit. You look adorable. I completely understand your used to be fear of shorts. I was the same way but a little opposite. I loved short shorts & would walk around naked when I was younger, but now I am way too conscious and concerned with how my legs look in shorts. I’m trying to work out of that, so it is very inspiring to see you in this outfit 😘

Ashley, I hope you become comfortable to wear shorts. I honestly didn’t think I ever would, but here I am! 😜 Thank you for your comment.

Work it, girl! You look amazing, and the shorts look great! I’ve always had trouble with wearing shorts in public, and I am hoping I can snag a good pair from Torrid this summer!

Such a cute boho summer outfit! I can’t get over how adorable those ombré straps in the sandals are, I may have to go scoop me a pair of those STAT. I’m fairly self conscious about my thighs so I don’t normally wear shortshorts but you’ve given me inspiration – and the way you’re rocking that off the shoulder top, yeah, that’s just bomb. I’m going to have to try a copy outfit methinks!
