I need a winter coat
Unsurprisingly Pittsburgh is cold in November. Surprisingly as a style blogger I am not prepared. Last year, I didn’t buy new winter coats, boots, or barely any articles of warm weather clothing. I was attempting to relocate to a warmer climate, so I decided it was unnecessary. Well, I am still here and it’s cold. My winter essentials from multiple winters ago are either tattered or too small.
I love thrifted winter coats, such as this one. But this never buttoned up all the way so while it’s nice to look at it, it has some issues keeping me warm. haha That is the issue of many of my coats. You can see how I styled it last year on this post: Femme of the Forest .
Notice how distressed I get when I’m cold. hahah Wearing mostly thrifted with my fave Poetic Licence boots and new Coastal.com glasses I wore on my last post.
So I obviously could have dressed warmer underneath my coat…
Because I got so cold during this shoot, I decided enough is enough and went impromptu winter coat shopping. I wanted a higher quality warm cheaper coat to wear now and to become my dog walking/errand coat. Ideally this jacket should be fairly cute, warm, and plus size. My plan was to pop into a store like Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Old Navy and grab and go. I had zero luck. So I ranted about it:
ETA: This is about spending a few hours looking for a warm decent looking winter coat in stores that are supposed to have plus-size options only to have next to zero selection. Obviously I could shop in a department store or at one of the two plus size retail mainstays: Lane Bryant & Torrid. This isn’t about that. It is about not letting retailers off the hook when they are clearly doing a terrible job of catering to 67% of women. . Rant: Today I went winter coat shopping & found nothing. Like everything I found was of mediocre quality, yesterday’s trends or not warm. The Marshall’s I went to had like literally two plus size coats (they were ugly anyway). . 67% of women in the USA are size 14+ & it’s still hard to find a winter coat in person?! Unacceptable! Shaking my fat head. For shame! 🖕🖕🖕 . Back to online coat shopping, because none of my coats from previous seasons work anymore (I didn’t get one last year. What I have left are all torn, stained or too small to fasten). I was cold & it was an I-need-a-coat-now-until-I-can-order-a-better-one-trip. ❄❄❄ . P.S. These Kodak lenses from @coastaldotcom are really helping to prevent migraines!!! I was able to shop without getting a migraines from the harsh store lights!!!! #effyourbeautystandards migrainestrong #seeclearly #effyourbeautystandards
Well I still need coats, so online shopping will happen. I will share what coats I have on my online wish list in my next post! Feel free to let me know in the comments if there is a coat you have your eye on or recommend and maybe I’ll add it to my list.
If you live in a cold climate, stay warmer than me folks!
Have you tried adding in Merino under layers? I pretty much wear them under everything because we keep our house on the chilly side. They are machine washable….but perhaps not funtastic. And not a proper coat either.
No, I haven’t. Our house is chilly too! I’ll definitely check into Merino under layers. Thanks for the suggestion! 💖
