Hi yinz!
This entry features another plus size fall look. This time pattern mixing of polka dot and plaid. I’m wearing head to toe ModCloth (as stated that I would do in the previous entry). While I am plus size, this is available in sizes XS-4X. I have linked each item and shared how the sizing worked for me. I’m very happy with this fat modern day Mary Tyler Moore look.
Enjoy.
Pattern mixing with plaid
If you have been following me for a while, you know that I frequently pattern mix. I don’t intentionally set out to mix patterns. It happens organically when choosing my ‘fit. Many folks have asked me to do a pattern mixing tutorial.
The thing is most online pattern mixing advice I have seen is just wrong or reaching (I’m coming from an art background too). Some advisors claim not to mix two prints of the same size or some other arbitrary rule. You don’t have to be constricted like that. It is all a fun experiment. Just try it, if you haven’t. Thrift stores can be playgrounds for this (though often limited in size range). Play with items in your closet. Copy your favorite bloggers. Eventually it will just stick. I think we all can do it, it’s just we were so conditioned not to clash. In addition, for so long plus size people were neglected from any conversations about style. So there you have it my tutorial is ignore the rules and just try it.

The Plaid Pants
Plaids are so big this fall. I am here for it! For the naysayers who proclaim: I do what i want. I don’t like trends. My response: THIS MEANS THERE WILL BE MORE PLAID AVAILABLE IN MY SIZE. DON’T KILL MY VIBE. I obv don’t wait for a trend to wear plaid pants. However, I am also unapologetic about my love of trends. I love forecasting trends and making personal bets with myself. In fact, I’m headed to the Dallas Market Center later this month to be a trend spotter at the Dallas Apparel & Accessories Show.
Where were we? Plaid pants. There is something so iconic about them, especially high-waisted ones. In fact, this weekend I will meet some friends and fellow Yinz Bopo babes for another photo shoot (did you see the first one?) with the MyXXFLY fam and I will wear the high-waisted plaid culottes from this post. They are vintage Blair so I cannot link them.
I sized down in these plaid pants. You might need to too, depending on your shape. I was able to size for the small of my waist as opposed to my hips. This is from ModCloth’s signature label which I find runs a bit larger than other brands in general.

The Polka Dot Winter Coat
This is my second entry featuring a winter coat this year and it’s not even November. I’m ready for you winter, you cruel soul sucker that makes life icy and miserable. Do you remember my rant from last year? Oooo I was fuming when I couldn’t find an emergency winter coat worth buying (read remotely my style) locally. I have two new CUTE AF winter coats and my outlook positive (I swear).
This coat is high quality! I ordered based on my top size (I am smaller up top) and it fits like a dream.

Accessories
Beret, vintage inspired bag, and Wizard of Oz inspired shoes! I mean magical.
For most of my life my bags have been either vintage or bought at a market when I travel abroad. New bags weren’t speaking to me and I didn’t see any reason to carry something that wasn’t me. Lately though, I have seen a whole lot of bags that I love. This is one. It has compartments and an optional cross body strap.
These shoes, I tell you. These shoes. I actually squealed when they arrived.
Berets: I have them in many colors and never get sick of them. Such a simple way to add a lot of style to a look.

The Gold Turtleneck
For the last to winters I have been wearing a vintage yellow turtleneck. It would always roll up my hips. I decided it was time for an upgrade in fit. Hence my new one. All the same vibes with a way better fit. THIS is a Jamie staple! Fits true to size.
I’ve been wearing a lot of ModCloth lately. I am part of the #ModClothSquad which means I get to try out new clothing. They don’t sponsor this blog post. This is all me. I’ve been shopping with them way before I ever created a blog. So this partnership is natural and real.
